VCA card does not work when installed
in MX61/MX81 mixers
We occasionally get calls about this.
Unlike most mixers with a remote VCA
connection, the MX61 and MX81 only have two terminals on the
rear. The VCA pot connection does not need three terminals.
The VCA in the MX series attenuates
downwards from the maximum position set by the Master Volume pot
on the mixer. Thus, fully up on the VCA control only lets the
user achieve the maximum volume set on the front panel.
The pot that connects to the two VCA
terminals on the rear MUST be 500k ohms (or higher). Any less
than this value and you will find that the mixer is very quiet!
Essentially:
500k ohms across the terminals = no attenuation.
0 ohms across the terminals = full attenuation.
As such, the pot only needs to be wired using two of its pins.
Use of a pot of a lower resistance than
this value presents a very low resistance (even when turned
fully up) and will actually cause the VCA to attenuate. The pot
value must be 500k ohms or above.

Technical Department.
